GENERAL NEWS
REMINDER: Students when you arrive on campus DO NOT SIT IN YOUR VEHICLES. Students are to come into the building and not gather in the parking lot!
The Coffee House now has 8oz. Bottles of water for 50 cents.
***Students who plan to attend BRTC during the summer or next school year need to see the BRTC representative on SEGP nights and this MUST be taken care of next week.
***Students who plan on taking BRTC online courses next year will not be allowed to leave our campus (regardless of the whether they pay full tuition price or not).
SENIORS! The Arkansas Challenge Scholarship awards have been released. Please check the email account you used to register for instructions on how to accept the scholarship. If yours still says “eligibility pending” please go see Lindsay Stewart. Seniors…… The Project Graduation agreement is out by the bulletin board across from the office! These must be returned to Mrs. Dianna no later than May 3rd and the sooner the better please! We need each senior to fill one out regardless of whether or not you are attending so that we can get a t-shirt size.

Flyers for students and parents
PHS Blood Drive will be held on Wednesday, April 24th (9:00-2:30) in the Student Center/Study Hall. Please sign up in Math & Science wing by Mrs. Steimel/Murray's room by Monday, April 21st. Must be 16+ years old and if 16, you will need a parent consent form (also outside Steime/Murray classroom).
St. Bernard's is now accepting applications for this summer's Jr. Volunteer Program. The program allows students (ages 15 – 18) an opportunity to volunteer in a hospital setting where they will explore careers and gain experience in helping others. Participants will gain hands on experience in surgery, laboratory, nursing, radiology, rehabilitative services, exercise science, pharmacy and more! It will be a three-week session where we will accept 16 students into the program. The session will be held from July 12-August 2. *Remember, all High School students that are 15-18 years of age are eligible to apply. See the nurse for an application.
PHS Relay for Life Team!
Money collected so far:

Select teachers have jars set up in their classroom to collect change for the Relay for Life. Like last year, the class that collects the most change between now and April 30th will win a free soda and snack! If you do not have a teacher with a jar in their room, you can put your change in your class jar in the office or library. We all know someone who is battling cancer or who has lost their fight to cancer. Let’s all come together and help raise money for this great cause!
PHS Clothing closet has coats and new shoes for use… Visit the closet if you have any clothing needs and take what you need. Prom dresses are also available! Please leave it organized :)
Reminder: Please remember once a student has reached 6 absences in any given class period that a parent note will not excuse that absence. After 6 absences, the only notes that excuse students are doctor notes, death or serious injury in the immediate family, an appt with government agency, participation in FFA, FHA, or 4H activities, or exceptional circumstances with prior approval of the principal/assistant principal. Please also remember excuse notes must be presented to the office within 5 days of returning to school. Notes presented more that 5 days may not be accepted. Notes should be turned into the office first thing in the morning, (for more

The ACT Scholarship Giveaway for Sophomores & Juniors
Eligible sophomores and juniors that register for the April, June, or July, 2019 US national test date (and opt-in to the giveaway during registration) have a chance to win. It’s just that easy! 2019 Student-View Scholarship Program
The Student-View Scholarship is a unique opportunity for high school seniors. It is open to all students regardless of academic achievement or financial need. Visit www.student-view.com.

SENIORS: NEXT STEPS FOR COLLEGE

(ONLINE) Complete FAFSA - If you are considering going to college, you must complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Student Aid) form online @ https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/ (You may pick up a FAFSA ID Worksheet from Mrs. Stewart or Mrs. Hampton to record your login information. You WILL need this every year.)
(ONLINE) Complete YOUniversal Scholarship - Complete the YOUniversal Scholarship application online @ https://www.ark.org/adhe_financialaid (to qualify for the Academic Challenge Scholarship)
(ONLINE) Apply to Colleges – Complete online applications as an incoming, undergraduate freshman for any potential colleges you are considering attending
(Some colleges charge an application fee. If you receive free/reduced lunches, you may be able
to obtain a fee waiver. See Mrs. Hampton for more information.)
(COUNSELOR) Submit Transcript Request – Obtain a transcript request form (list all colleges for which you completed an online application) from Mrs. Hampton or Mrs. Stewart, and return it to Mrs. Hampton.
(This allows your listed colleges to receive your official transcript and ACT scores. You may also
need to complete a shot-record release form with Mrs. Gholson.)
(ONLINE) Check Regularly – Make sure you check your email, FAFSA account, YOUniversal account, and college application accounts for any messages or tasks that still need to be completed. You will have to ‘accept’ financial aid awards. WATCH DEADLINES!
CONCURRENT CREDIT/BRTC COURSES
Online Courses through BRTC - If you wish to take an online course
through BRTC, you must have a period in your PHS schedule to complete
the course work in the computer lab/study hall. You will be counted absent if
you do not attend that class every day, just as your other PHS classes.
Dual Credit Courses (on BRTC Campus) - These courses must be pre-
approved by Mrs. Hampton. If you wish to take a course on the BRTC
campus during the school day, you must provide the days and times the
course meets and have it pre-approved by Mrs. Hampton. If the course will
not allow you to have 6 credit-classes in your PHS schedule per day, you will
not be approved to take the course.
ACT INFORMATION

If you are planning to take a College Day, please remember you must not have exceeded the
allowable absences in a semester and you will need to get a form from the office prior to the
visit. The student must meet with the school counselor and have the form signed by the
counselor and a parent; then turn into the office the day before visit. The student must provide
written verification of the visit to the office upon returning to school.

10th-12th grade students, do you plan to play college sports? Pick up info about NCAA and

Stanford Pre-Collegiate Studies summer program (in California) is now accepting applications for various summer residential camps/institutes in arts, humanities, science, and math for students in grades 8 and up. Selective Service is important for our country, and it's the law! It's adding your name to a database to be used only in a national emergency. Law Day Art and Essay Contest (Arkansas Supreme Court)
The Arkansas Supreme Court is holding an art and essay contest for all Arkansas
students in grades 4-12. The contest comes in advance of a Law Day ceremony, which will take place on May 1. This year’s Law Day theme is freedom of expression.
Chief Justice John Dan Kemp will present awards to the winners during the May 1
ceremony at the Justice Building at 625 Marshall Street in Little Rock. A
winner will be chosen from the following grade levels: 4-6th grade, 7-9th
grade, and 10-12th grade.
When submitting an entry, please indicate the contestant’s grade level. Essays
should be no more than 500 words. If submitting art, please include a brief
description of the piece and its meaning.
